EMMAUS began out of the hearts of a group of people from all over the country whose desire is to see the Kingdom of God come to the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina.

The word "Emmaus" comes from a story in the Gospel of Luke 24v13-35. In this narrative, Jesus joins two discouraged travelers on the road from Jerusalem to a village called Emmaus. As a result of their time with Jesus, their ‘eyes were opened’ (v31) and their lives were changed.

The encounter that the two travelers had with Jesus led to a radical transformation. They began their journey in doubt and discouragement, they concluded in joy, boldness, and a rekindled faith. It is our hope and prayer that whoever journeys with EMMAUS - A Jesus Church, would experience the same kind of transformation.
